Camarillo is a fairly populous city in the southern region of Ventura County. It is surrounded by Somis, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, and Oxnard. As compared to most areas in the Southern California region, Ventura County—and Camarillo, specifically—is greener, more suburban, and less frenetic. The average resident's panorama of the Santa Monica Mountains to the south is simply breathtaking, positioning natural beauty as one of Camarillo's strongest attributes.
Housing there is also a bit more spread out and rural; most houses have significant yards, etc. There are some cookie-cutter houses in Camarillo that were birthed in Orange-County-style, pre-planned housing developments, but Camarillo residents have resisted such projects on a fairly consistent basis in an effort to preserve the city's spirit and history. Camarillo is also noted for its outlet stores and independently administrated public library. Primary local throughways include the 101 freeway, Route 34, Las Posas Road, and Mission Oaks Blvd.
