Tierrasanta is a master-planned community within the City of San Diego
. It is generally circumscribed by Mission Trails Regional Park in the east, Route 52 in the north, the 15 freeway in the west, and the San Diego River/Allied Gardens in the south. Like most pre-planned developments in Southern California, Tierrasanta has a careful balance of residential and commercial zoning, well-kept public spaces, and soundly organized throughways.
The community's proximity to such a large swath of open, green territory to the east yields obvious aesthetic benefits, but unlike most areas that enjoy rural charm, Tierrasanta is not inconveniently located; it is not especially far from Mission Bay and Downtown San Diego
to begin with, and the 15 freeway/Route 52 and 15 freeway/8 freeway junctions it lies near render it eminently accessible. Tierrasanta is awash in schools—there are eight of them, including elementary, middle, and high schools, within its relatively small area. Other nearby landmarks of note include Montgomery Field a few miles to the west and Lake Murray a few miles to the southeast.
