Ocean Beach is a minuscule beach-side neighborhood within the City of San Diego
. It sits on both Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean, bordering Point Loma Heights almost exclusively. Ocean Beach is the quintessential seaside hamlet, complete with beaches and cliffs and sunsets and the like. It is also home to some nice little shops and restaurants where one might just as easily grab some oysters as buy an antique lamp.
These attractions, Ocean Beach's hotels and resorts, and the innumerable leisures and pleasures of the beach attract a fairly consistent flow of tourists, folks from other parts of the city, and other miscellaneous non-residents; keep this in mind if you are more inclined toward a 'sleepy' sort of neighborhood. Walking and biking about in Ocean Beach is quite easy and quite common. The 8 freeway actually ends at the edge of Ocean Beach, so it's the primary artery for lighting out anywhere else, whether east on the 8 itself or north/south via the 5 a few miles away.
