Torrance is a large and populous city in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County. It lies, for the most part, on the inland side of the Pacific Coast Highway, save for a small stretch of coastal territory just north of Palos Verdes Estates. Torrance is an interesting residential-commercial-industrial hybrid: it has a culturally and ethnically diverse population that hovers somewhere north of 130,000 inhabitants; its signature shopping complex, the Del Amo Fashion Center, is one of the largest such establishments in the entire country; it is home to the headquarters of multiple major automakers, an oil refinery that provides gasoline to a significant portion of Southern California, and one of the busiest general aviation airports in the state.
Torrance is centrally located relative to the South Bay
, and enjoys strong accessibility on account of its proximity to the 405, 110, and 91 freeways, all of which link the city to other major areas of LA County quite effectively.
