Carmel Mountain Ranch is a small community within the City of San Diego
. It is bordered by Sabre Springs in the south, the City of Poway in the east, Rancho Bernardo
in the north, and Rancho Penasquitos
—along with the Black Mountain Open Space Park therein—to the west. Carmel Mountain's proximity to open, green lands in the west is among its most defining characteristics; so too is the community's overall dedication to its outdoor spaces, from publicly supervised medians and thoroughfares to Highland Ranch Park and the expansive Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club.
Prospective residents will note that Carmel Mountain has a small-town, provincial feel—as evidenced by its population of only about 12,000—and that while accessibility is not its strongest suit, the relative privacy it offers is a welcome reverie for those who choose to call it home. Primary access routes: the 15 freeway along the community's western border, and by extension, the east-west Route 56.
