About Sylmar
Sylmar is one of the very northernmost neighborhoods in the City of Los Angeles. It lies in the San Fernando Valley region, just east of Granada Hills and just north of San Fernando. Sylmar has been an important locale for healthcare dating all the way back to 1920 when a tuberculosis sanitarium opened up there; nowadays, the area is home to Olive-View UCLA Medical Center, a full hospital and clinical research center that is vital to the San Fernando Valley.

By virtue of how far north Sylmar is, getting to the rest of LA County from there can be a bit difficult, but strong freeway access helps to mitigate this isolation: the 405, 5, 118, and 210 freeways are all within striking distance. For potential residents who do not have access to cars, Sylmar Station is a reasonable hub from which to commute across the city. Other prominent local throughways include San Fernando Road and Glenoaks Blvd.
