La Mirada is a midsized city on the border between Los Angeles County and Orange County
. It lies in the Southeast region, surrounded by South Whittier, Santa Fe Springs, Cerritos, Fullerton
, and La Habra
. In the 1950's, La Mirada was meticulously planned out and created in a large-scale development project similar to those that have since swept the Orange County region of Southern California. The advantages of this approach are still on display today in La Mirada: a balanced mixture of residential and economic zoning, efficient organization in neighborhood layout and road connectivity, and relatively well-kept public spaces. Residents claim that the city is a quiet place to live.
Accessibility is not La Mirada's strongest suit in that the 5 and 91 freeways are within striking distance, but are not very conveniently located for would-be commuters. The other side to this coin is that La Mirada affords its citizens relative privacy and a more suburban feel. Other prominent arteries: Rosecrans Ave. and the Imperial Highway.
