California State University, Los Angeles, or Cal State LA, is located just east of Downtown in a district called University Hills. In recent years, the area has become a popular residential destination, and not just because of its proximity to CSULA: between the 710 freeway/10 freeway junction and the Cal State LA Metro Link (Gold Line) station, the University Hills neighborhood has strong centrality and accessibility. If you need to commute via public transit, hopping on the Gold Line to Downtown, the central hub of the entire LA Metro, can get you virtually anywhere in the city within a reasonable time frame.
The entire district sits atop a series of hills, affording residents a fine view of the San Gabriel Mountains, Downtown LA
, etc. The Cal State area is typically bustling, as one might expect, with droves of college students—the university has about 23,000 or so—but it is just as well suited to professionals in search of an up-and-coming area.
