About Westwood
Westwood is a neighborhood on the west side of Los Angeles—east of the 405 freeway and north of Santa Monica Blvd. It is best known as the home of UCLA (the University of California, Los Angeles). The school's 42,000 plus students define the area's culture, from the apartments in which they live to the cafés and pubs they choose to patronize, and the entire area is typically bustling with heavy pedestrian and bicycle traffic, particularly surrounding the main hub of culture and commerce in Westwood: Westwood Village.

This area is known for its theaters, restaurants, Spanish architecture, and general air of youth and levity. Diddy Riese, a well-loved local ice cream and cookie shop, attracts customers from all across the city. Apartment buildings dominate Westwood's housing. There are some pockets of extremely upscale houses in the area, to be sure, but a university as large as UCLA requires both designated dormitories for freshmen and city block after city block of apartments for upperclassmen and graduate students.

If you have a car, be very conscious of the parking options included in your living situation; parking is notoriously difficult in Westwood, especially in any neighborhood heavily populated by students. Primary arteries: Wilshire Blvd., Westwood Blvd., Veteran Ave., the 405 freeway.
