Lakeside is a small district in the far east of San Diego County. It is surrounded, at least generally, by Eucalyptus Hills, Winter Gardens, Harbison Canyon, Granite Hills, and two major wilderness areas—Louis A. Stelzer County Park and Lake Jennings Park. True to its name, Lakeside also has lakes. Three of them, to be exact. They are Lake Jennings, El Capitan Reservoir, and San Vicente Reservoir. Owing to these bodies of water and to its relatively secluded location, Lakeside is best understood as a quaint little town (though it is technically unincorporated) with a great deal of open, green space. After all, it lies just a few miles west of the Cuyamaca Mountains. Route 67 and the 8 freeway are your primary access routes for the rest of San Diego County. Lakeside is probably a little far for commuting to San Diego proper on a daily basis, but of course many folks brave that adventure in order to live in a private, quiet, naturally beautiful locale.
