Mira Mesa is a fairly populous community within the City of San Diego. It lies in the central northern region of the city, a little ways southwest of Rancho Penasquitos and Black Mountain Open Space Park, where San Diego curls off toward the Cleveland National Forest. Mira Mesa is a meticulously planned-out community with a careful balance of residential, commercial, and recreational zoning. The community is somewhat bike-able, but prospective residents should probably plan to secure motor vehicle access before moving there. Motorists will typically flow in and out of Mira Mesa via the 15 freeway, which constitutes the area's eastern border. With fairly well-regarded education—both public and private—as well as a tight-knit community feel, Mira Mesa stands out as a somewhat classic, semi-suburban area where residents seek to raise families. It is also worth noting that the community is neither especially far from the beach, nor from open, green areas like Torrey Pines State National Reserve and the aforementioned Black Mountain Open Space Park.
