About Escondido
Escondido is a large (~37 square mile) and populous (~150,000 resident) city the north of San Diego County. It borders San Marcos, the Rancho Bernardo area of San Diego, as well as a good deal of unincorporated land. Escondido is peppered with parks, lakes, reservoirs, and other open, public spaces of the like, which lends it a suburban feel despite how densely it is populated. Downtown Escondido is the city's primary center for commerce and culture—specifically, the area along Grand Avenue. You can head there for a community event, a car show, a bite to eat, a night at the theater, et cetera.

It is also the most walkable/bikeable sector of Escondido, which is generally quite car-dependent. The 15 freeway and Route 78 cross in the city's western territory; these are your best bets for getting around, especially if you are planning to commute down to San Diego on a regular basis.
