Palmdale is a populous city in the far north of Los Angeles County. Along with Lancaster, its neighbor to the north, it comprises the most significant urban space in the Antelope Valley region. Palmdale primarily runs on manufacturing and aerospace jobs, though it is also somewhat of a commuter city; many of its residents commute to the San Fernando Valley
, but it is generally quite far from the rest of the county, rendering a daily trip to an area like the Los Angeles Basin, for instance, fairly impractical. People do it all the time, but it’s quite a trek, and if you’re moving to Southern California from out of town, you should know that it’s not like hopping over to New York City from Greenwich, Connecticut.
In the event that you do need to get to LA, Palmdale’s transportation center has a Metro Link line running to Downtown LA
. The Antelope Valley area is relatively open and undeveloped and is separated from the southern part of the county by the ever-picturesque San Gabriel Mountains.
