Del Mar is a small, upscale, coastal city in San Diego County. It borders Solana Beach in the north, North City and Del Mar Heights in the east, Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve in the south, and as you might have guessed, the Pacific Ocean in the west. Del Mar's character is primarily derived from its proximity to various bodies of water and preserved forest territories. From aquatic recreation to hiking to golf, Del Mar offers luxuries that are rare in an urban area as developed and populous as San Diego
is. The Del Mar Fairgrounds are home to the San Diego County Fair, as well as year-round horse racing.
With few residents (just over 4,000), a scrupulously sustained balance of residential and commercial development, and vast tracts of relatively undamaged nature, Del Mar has a lazy and intimate atmosphere. Camino Del Mar runs north-south through the city; Del Mar Heights Road and Jimmy Durante Blvd. Grant access to the 5 freeways a little ways to the east.
