About Mission Beach
Mission Beach is a two-ish mile-long sliver of land comprising the westernmost territory in the Mission Bay area of San Diego. It is essentially a sand bar, though it is large enough to accommodate a small community, and its peninsular status makes it a quintessential beach town. Mission Beach also has the benefit of sharing in the myriad attractions and leisures of Mission Bay more generally. All manner of outdoor, Southern-California-typical activities are available here, from swimming to sunbathing to skateboarding to surfing. Mission Beach's public spaces do not permit alcohol, dogs, glass containers, or bonfires for public safety and cleanliness purposes. This is not to say that there is no fun to be had on Mission Beach—quite the contrary; the area is well known for its bars and nightlife.

Mission Beach is accessible only via Mission Blvd. and Mission Bay Drive; the 5 and 8 freeways are a quick trip across the Bay, though, so getting out into the rest of San Diego County from this area is not especially difficult.
