City Heights is a neighborhood in eastern San Diego
. It is circumscribed by such areas as Islenair, Talmadge, Normal Heights
, North Park
, and Fairmont Park, among others. City Heights was once known as East San Diego, but its name was changed in the 1920's, a re-branding borne from technicalities surrounding the then-city's incorporation and subsequent dissolution, but not at all out-of-sync with its modern redevelopment and revival.
Post-2000, City Heights began to welcome new commerce; nowadays, it is a “walker's paradise” (according to WalkScore) and a fine place to shop and stroll. Public transit and biking are also solidly viable options for getting around. Prospective residents will note that the territory of City Heights includes a small, in-city park called Manzanita Canyon, which allows for some convenient outdoor leisure. Primary arteries: the 15 and 805 freeways; a little to the south, the 94 freeway is within striking distance as well.
