Montclair is a small city in southwestern San Bernardino County, right near Pomona
, Upland, and Ontario
. It covers about 5.5 square miles and has a population just over 35,000. Montclair is a fairly typical Inland Empire municipality, with a picturesque view of (and easy access to) the San Gabriel Mountains in the north, but limited centrality and accessibility as far as the rest of Southern California is concerned. Most notably, Montclair is almost directly south of Mount Baldy, a destination for skiing and snowboarding.
More local landmarks include campuses for The Claremont Colleges; the five-school consortium lies just to the northwest of Montclair city limits and fills the area with a young, bustling energy. It is inadvisable to treat Montclair as a bedroom community for Los Angeles—the commute is truly vast, and with no shortage of traffic from areas just east of DTLA—but of course, some folks brave the drive. Prominent arteries include the 10 freeway, which runs through the north of Montclair.
