About Solana Beach
Solana Beach is an upscale city toward the north of San Diego County. It borders Cardiff in the north, Rancho Santa Fe in the east, Del Mar in the south, and of course, the Pacific Ocean in the west. Solana Beach has a small population (under 13,000 residents) and is a bit more mellow in spirit than many of its southern counterparts: beach cities closer to Downtown San Diego tend to be popular destinations for tourism, day-tripping, and nightlife, where Solana Beach is primarily residential. This is not to say that there is nothing interesting to do there; if your idea of a fun time is to enjoy a solid pizza place, a local brewery, a fun concert venue, or something along those lines, then you will want for very little.

For those wondering whether or not Solana Beach can feasibly be used as a bedroom community for San Diego proper, the answer is yes, but with some difficulty. To make that commute daily, you have to take the 5/805 freeways—which, of course, can be inundated with traffic from time to time—but many folks brave those struggles for the chance to keep their homes in Solana Beach.
