About Highland Park
Highland Park is located to the northeast of Downtown Los Angeles. It runs along the 110 freeway toward Pasadena. The neighborhood is over one hundred years old and has changed erratically over that span; at various times, it has been an enclave of artists, intellectuals, Mexican Americans, and hipsters. Highland Park is currently in the midst of a renaissance like the rest of LA's greater Downtown area. Many shops, bars, restaurants, and other businesses have sprung up in the past several years, joining old mainstays like Fashion 21, the founding location for the now-ubiquitous Forever 21 chain.

Many of Highland Park's historic, Victorian-style homes have been razed over the years, but preservation efforts have been moderately successful, and the historic, urban vibe of the area persists.
