Saugus is a neighborhood of Santa Clarita
, and therefore a part of Los Angeles County. It lies north of the San Fernando Valley
region of Los Angeles, positioning it (and Santa Clarita more generally) as a prime commuter town. Many, many folks choose to live in places like Saugus that are more rural and less frenetic than LA proper and brave the southbound commute either to the Valley or all the way to the LA Basin. While that may not sound especially convenient, the suburban feel and mountain views are worth it to many.
Saugus has a very low population density and is primarily blanketed with midsized-to-large single-family homes. The city was named after Saugus, MA. Primary arteries include Magic Mountain Parkway, Bouquet Canyon Rd., Soledad Canyon Rd., and Railroad Ave.; commuters typically light out for Los Angeles via the 5 and 14 freeways, which connect to the 210, 405, and 118 a ways south of Santa Clarita city limits.
