About Baldwin Hills
Generally located between La Cienega and Crenshaw Blvds. and south of Jefferson Blvd., Baldwin Hills is one of the highest-income predominantly black (78.5%) areas in the nation. As its name would indicate, Baldwin Hills enjoys some scenic, vertical topography, overlooking a good deal of the Los Angeles Basin to the north. It is carved up into several communities and subdivisions based on location, character, and a neighborhood's potential status as a housing development. Of these, Baldwin Hills Estates, Baldwin Vista, Village Green, The Jungle, and Sherm Alley are the most notable.

Housing options range from modest single-family homes to posh bungalows to full-on mansions. During the days of segregation, Baldwin Hills was considered the 'Black Beverly Hills,' so much of its architecture is both beautiful and historic. The well-loved and gorgeously landscaped Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area runs all along the neighborhood's southern tendrils. Primary arteries: the 10 freeway, Jefferson Blvd., Stocker Street, La Cienega Blvd., La Brea Ave.
