Porter Ranch is a sparsely populated, upscale neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles. It straddles the Ronald Reagan Freeway (118) near Granada Hills, occupying some of the northernmost territory in the city. Because it sits atop the charming, brushy foothills of the Santa Susana Mountains, Porter Ranch exhibits considerable natural beauty. Many Porter-Ranch-adjacent lands are even designated as parks and/or preservations.

Housing is heavily skewed toward single-family homes, more than 91% of which are occupant-owned rather than rented. Accordingly, Porter Ranch has one of the highest median income figures for both the city and the county ($121,000+ in 2008). Note that this neighborhood is superlatively car-dependent; the 118 freeway is its only significant access route to other parts of LA County, but of course, many residents prefer privacy and a suburban feel to convenience.
