About San Carlos
San Carlos is a hilly neighborhood in the east of San Diego. It borders La Mesa, Del Cerro, Allied Gardens, and Mission Trails Regional Park. Between the park—much of which actually lies within San Carlos—and Lake Murray to the south, the area is best understood as a woodsy, brushy, semi-mountainous mini-suburbia. As one might expect, natural beauty and open space are some of San Carlos's most notable characteristics.

For all its un-urbanized territory, however, San Carlos does not lack for centrality or accessibility; it is generally circumscribed by Route 52 in the north, Route 125 in the east, the 8 freeway in the south, and a little ways farther to the west, the 15 freeway. Mission Bay, Downtown San Diego, various beaches, and other common destinations for both commuting and leisure activity are within ten miles to the west/southwest of San Carlos. Prospective residents without vehicle access should note that this neighborhood is extremely car-dependent.
