About Malibu
Located to the west of Los Angeles along a southward-facing coastline, the city of Malibu is one of the most well-known upscale residential areas in the world. It is cradled by the gorgeous Santa Monica Mountains, but does not technically include them; its land stops just north of the Pacific Coast Highway. Malibu's beaches are widely considered some of the nicest in Southern California. Some are either private or subject to restricted public access, which is very atypical for coastlines in the Los Angeles area, and there is a consistent back-and-forth between Malibu residents who wish to limit accessibility and non-residents who wish to partake in Malibu's scenic beauty.

Note that the city is very much car dependent, and that most who choose to live there prioritize privacy and aesthetics over convenience—primary arteries are limited to Routes 23 and 27, both of which connect to the 101 freeway via long, winding canyon passes, and the Pacific Coast Highway.
